This simple pattern is a quick and easy way to make your own semi-solid Granny Squares. Why semi-solid? Because it still has the corner space that some crochet specialists eliminate, while not being in a traditional granny stitch.
This particular stitch is perfect for a medium weight blanket. It's heavier than the granny stitch, while not being quite as heat retaining as a fully solid square.
Row 1: ch 3, 2 dc in loop, ch 3, (3 dc in loop, ch 3) three times, join.
Row 2: sl st to ch3 space, ch 3, dc in space, ch 3, 2 dc in space, dc in each dc, (2dc, ch3, 2dc, ch 1) in space, continue pattern around, with 2dc, ch3, 2dc, in each space and a dc in each dc. Join with sl st.
Row 3+: Repeat row 2, until square is desired size. If desired, on the last row, you can ch2 instead of ch3 in the spaces to eliminate the "corner" stitch and make it easier when joining squares. Tie off and weave in ends.
Block as needed.

Basic Definitions
- st - stitch
- sl st- slip stitch
- ch - chain
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- sk - skip. This means skip the indicated number of stitches from the last stitch that connected to the previous row. So, if the number is 2, count 2 stitches and put your next stitch in the third one.
- join - to connect the current stitch to the first stitch of the current row, almost always a sl st.
Tools
- Hook Size: To fit gauge for pattern. If designing your own? For medium weight worsted, I suggest size H, I, or J for a fairly tight weave. G will get a very tight weave and K will be fairly loose.
- Yarn: Weight, material, and color of your choice.
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
